Texas!

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are back in Texas. We will be here through the end of December. Things are going well. We are enjoying all the food that we have missed over the last year. We want to thank everyone for their support. We hope everyone has a very merry Christmas!!

Sorry!

Sorry it has been so long since we have updated our blog. Our computer has been "out" for repairs. We spent this last week in staff training. It was a really good week. Our speaker for the week was Al Akimoff, who was one of the orginal YWAM'ers. It was so good to listen to his stories and to have him challenge us in our own personal vision/calling. We will be returning to Texas on 12/7 and will be there through the 26th or 28th. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

I am only human!!!

Well, first things first. After making 130 copies of our latest newsletter, I found a couple of typos. It is my fault, even though Sherri was supposed to proof it. Please don't think poorly of me. I added this picture so that it can sooth your minds. All is going well. Josh is starting basketball this week. He finished up football well.

Sherri and I have taken on the Life Groups at our church here. We are so very excited about it. We love you all. Please be praying for the Lord to provide a way home to Texas for the Christmas Holidays. Love Kev

The Newest!

Which is more monumental?

Amanda tied her shoes this week, by HERSELF!!!!! Kevin went bear hunting for the 2nd time. He spent all day Monday traveling around Prince William Sound - the most beautiful place in Alaska according to him - and was able to shoot a black bear. Some wonderful friends of ours took him to Prince William Sound for the day. The picture on the bottom is where Kevin shot his bear. Love you all Sherri

Busy! Busy! Busy!

We have been extremely busy the last few weeks. Our DTS students had their last week of lecture and have been preparing to leave tomorrow to head to St. Lawrence Island for 8 weeks. I have been co-leading the DTS and Kevin has been working hard with maintenance/building/vehicles.

The kids have kept us busy as well. Sami has been potty trained! Amanda started kindergarten on the 29th and will start piano lessons on Thursday afternoon. Josh has been playing football this summer. He is taking two classes at the middle school - English and band - and is homeschooling the rest. He is playing the french horn again. As if our jobs weren't enough to keep us busy!!!!!!!

This last weekend, a couple from our base got hitched. Sami and Amanda were flower girls (see pictures) and Kevin was an usher. We were so busy from Wednesday night to Saturday - it will take a few days to recuperate.

My how time flies!

Amanda is starting kindergarten tomorrow. She is so excited about going to school. She has been showing everyone her supplies and her new lunch box. She also got new shoes this last week and has shown them to everyone. We are excited for her, but are a little sad that are little one is getting so big!

Berry Pickin'

We were invited to go berry picking Friday. We really had a good time. The girls had a blast. They were so much fun to watch and pick with.

WEIO....WOW

What a great week we had. YWAM Arctic Mercy was asked or better yet, invited to assist a native ministry call Young Warriors at the World Eskimo and Indian Olympics this week. We spent the week serving the WEIO staff, as spotters in the event, floor helpers moving chairs, among many other duties. If you haven't ever seen anything like this before, it ain't like any Olympics we have ever seen. All of the event are taken from the culture, and are ways they prepared to succeed in the cold hard Arctic. Some of the events, were the two foot and one foot high kick, the Eskimo and Indian stick pulls, and many other strength events, that I could not even begin to compete in, except the four man carry. I carried four 150 lb. men, 30 feet, after the event was over. The winner, trained all year and carried his men 86 feet. The difference between his carry and mine, was that he walked away without a limp....and back pain. We were so blessed to serve and were really appreciated by the Native people that lead the event and competed. We can not wait to tell ya more later. Lord Bless You all, Kevin

If we weren't busy enough - we had three birthdays last week.

Cheyenne turned 14 on 7/3.

Josh turned 13 on 7/8.

Sami turned 3 on 7/7.

Cheyenne had a birthday party at the base and everyone played charades. Josh had a cookout on Sunday and he wanted to play poker - so they guys agreed - and Josh won. Sami had cupcakes for her birthday and we (about 15 of us) went outside and played a big games of duck duck goose. She thought is was sooooo funny! Anyway, we love them all and thought you would enjoy current pictures. Sherri

Going to State

Well, the Homer All-Star team won tonight. That means they play Seward tomorrow night for the South Pool Championship. No matter what, both teams, being #1 and #2, are going to Anchorage for the state tournament. It is the first time in many years that Homer gets to go. What an excitiing week we have had in Homer. The south pool tournament was played here in Homer and we have had some real intense ball games. Anyway, keep us and the ball club in your prayers. My Time in Alaska

Hey its me!!! My time up here has been awesome! Seward was amazing and the trip was fun. I turn 14 on Tuesday and Mema Carol and I leave Friday to come back to Texas. My time here has flown by so fast, I feel like I just got here. Unluckily, Mema and I are flying to Anchorage in one of those small airplanes, so pray for me. Well, we get into Texas on Saturday. 10 minutes of pure excitement

This is the best catch of my fishing history. It was one of the longest fights with a fish I've ever had. It was a king salmon(female) and it was 20 pounds or bigger. It was one of the best moments of my entire little life.

WHAT a morning!!!

My my my, what a morning. I taught a CPR class for a fishing guide, so he took us fishing. Josh, Taylor, and I landed our fish, unfortunatly Chey didn't, but we had a blast. We got up real early, and just had a good time. We all had a chance a fish. King Salmon are awesome.

Good times

We have been so blessed to have Sherri's mom, aunt and cousin up here this past week. We were able to take a 5 hour cruise through the Kenai Fjords out of Seward. The picture is of Bear glacier and some sea lions sunning. It is such a beautiful cruise and we really enjoyed just being together, laughing, cutting up and staring at God's creations.

Our All-Star

Josh has been selected to the Homer All-Star Baseball Team. Just wanted to send you a picture of the beautiful view that we see while watching his game. In this picture, Josh is on the mound with Kachemack Bay and the mountains in the background. God is so awesome!!!!!

Cool Stuff! This is the smoke from a 600 acre fire about 60 miles north of us. So far we have had more sunny days this summer thanwe had all of last summer and we are only in June.

All is Well!

Sami came through surgery great! The doctor said that her tonsils and adenoids were huge and that she was pretty closed off at the back of her throat. We spent five days in Anchorage in a hotel. The Lord blessed us and we were able to return to Homer early. Kevin and the other kids joined us for the weekend and we drove back with them. Sami is healing well - she is eating and drinking better. The best part is no snoring while she sleeps - it makes you want to check on her more often, because you can't hear her while she is sleeping. Her voice has also changed - it is much higher.

Kevin and I have been really busy with the beginning of a new school. Our new DTS class started on 6/6. I am helping lead the school and Kevin is teaching in the school and also heading up the maintenance department. It has been really busy, but should slow down some in the next couple of weeks. We will be heading to Kodiak Island during the week of 7/28 - 8/4 to help do some work on a home there. Kevin and I are really excited about the opportunity to see this island and get to know some of the people there. Kodiak Baptist Mission would like to have a team from YWAM move there to lead a small "outpost" of our base. This is going to be a great opportunity for us to travel and help them out and to further build a relationship with them.

A trip to Anchorage...and more

Hello all, please keep Sherri and Sami in your prayers. They leave today, Tuesday the 12th of June, for Anchorage. Sami is having Surgery to replace tubes in her ears and have her tonsils and adenoids removed. The other kids and I have to stay here in Homer and wait. please pray for Sami's health and all of us in this tough time. Kev
